Get Involved

NCVOAD membership is open to any organization that meets the following basic criteria:

  • Organizations that are statewide in scope and purpose.
  • Organizations that have voluntary memberships and constituencies.
  • Organizations that have a not-for-profit structure.
  • Organizations that have a statewide disaster response program and policy for commitment of resources to meet the needs of people affected by disaster, without discrimination as to race, creed, gender, or age.
  • Additionally, organizations
    • agree to have a representative attend three quarterly NCVOAD meetings, one of which shall be the annual meeting
    • are encouraged to make a voluntary annual dues payment of $100 (or other amount as determined by the membership)

NCVOAD Membership Catagories

  • Non-Profit (voting)
    • Member organization must be a nonprofit or faith-based organization and provide proof of status (examples of proof include: IRS 501c3, Form 990, etc.)
    • Member organization must have voluntary membership and constituencies
    • Member organization must be audited annually
    • Member organization must adhere to established fundraising practices
    • Member organization must have a history of demonstrated disaster experience in one or more of the following types of disaster relief
      • Preparedness and/or mitigation
      • Mass care
      • Emergency assistance and casework
      • Emotional and/or spiritual care
      • Supporting services to local member agencies
      • Recovery
      • Donations Management
      • Volunteer Management
      • Outreach and/or information and referral
      • Animals and Pets Services
    • Member organizations must support the purpose/objectives of NCVOAD and participate in NCVOAD activities

  • For-Profit (non-voting)
    • Member organization and/or business must have representatives that serve as volunteers in disaster situations or volunteer in support of NCVOAD member organizations in one or more of the following types of disaster relief
      • Preparedness and/or mitigation
      • Mass care
      • Emergency assistance and casework
      • Emotional and/or spiritual care
      • Supporting services to local member agencies
      • Recovery
      • Donations Management
      • Volunteer Management
      • Outreach and/or information and referral
      • Animals and Pets Services
    • Member organization and/or business that do not have disaster relief as part of their normal routine mission
    • Member organization and/or business must support the purpose/objectives of NCVOAD and participate in NCVOAD activities

  • Government (non-voting)
    • Member agency may represent local, state, or federal government
    • Member agency must endorse the purpose and objectives of NCVOAD
    • Member agency may, or may not, have a mission in disaster relief as part of their normal activities
    • Member agency must support one or more of the following types of disaster relief
      • Preparedness and/or mitigation
      • Mass care
      • Emergency assistance and casework
      • Emotional and/or spiritual care
      • Supporting services to local member agencies
      • Recovery
      • Donations Management
      • Volunteer Management
      • Outreach and/or information and referral
      • Animals and Pets Services
    • Member agency must participate in NCVOAD activities

  • Associate (non-voting)
    • Associate member represents a local or regional VOAD or COAD group
    • Associate members must represent a group that supports one or more of the following types of disaster relief
      • Preparedness and/or mitigation
      • Mass care
      • Emergency assistance and casework
      • Emotional and/or spiritual care
      • Supporting services to local member agencies
      • Recovery
      • Donations Management
      • Volunteer Management
      • Outreach and/or information and referral
      • Animals and Pets Services
    • Associate member must support the purpose/objectives of NCVOAD and participate in NCVOAD activities

How To Apply For NCVOAD Membership

Application for membership should be in the form of a letter from the organization or agency to the current NCVOAD President. The letter should request membership, include the name of the membership category, and include a description of how the organization or agency meets each of the criteria for the membership category they are seeking. Membership letters will be determined incomplete if the applicant fails to address each of the criteria.
