Working with clients from Tropical Storm Nicole (fall 2010) and Spring Tornado event (April 2011), NC VOAD responds to Hurricane Irene. The twelve long term recovery groups established or energized following the tornadoes will provide a mentoring capability as new groups are established following Irene.

Contacted by FEMA on Sunday, 17 April, NCVOAD established a conference call daily (except Saturday and Sunday) to ensure coordination, cooperation and communication between all active voluntary organizations. This call continues with as many as 20 participants every day. Disaster Response agencies from across the country are here assisting or will become active as we begin the Long Term Recovery phase. North Carolina Interfaith Disaster Response will begin to host with FEMA, formation and training meetings for local Interfaith organizations. There are two existing Interfaith Organizations in the affected areas, Wake County Interfaith Disaster Team in Raleigh and Greene County Interfaith Volunteers, Inc., in Snow Hill. We will post the notices of upcoming meetings as they are arranged.
